Jonny Gifford

Jonny has been conducting applied research in HR, people management and organisations for over 20 years. His research interests include drivers of employee performance and wellbeing, job quality or ‘good work’, social mobility, and behaviour and change within organisations. He established the CIPD’s work to develop an evidence-based profession, including its programme of evidence reviews on core HR topics. He also led CIPD’s knowledge exchange with academic research, including its Applied Research Conferences.

Jonny headed up the CIPD research team until recently and has previously held research posts at Westminster Business School, the Institute for Employment Studies and Roffey Park Institute. He is an Academic Member of the CIPD, a Fellow of the Center for Evidence-Based Management (CEBMa), Associate Editor at the Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance (JOEPP), and a PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where his thesis centres on work autonomy and managerial control.
