Dawn joined J Murphy and Sons Ltd (Murphy) in January 2020 as Group Director of People, overseeing the People strategy and activities for all of Murphy operations across the UK, Ireland and Canada. Prior to Murphy, she was HR Director at Morgan Sindall and received numerous awards for her work on culture change, people strategy, learning and development and diversity and inclusion. In 2019, Dawn was voted HR Director of the Year (EMEA) by HRO Today. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Dawn holds a Master’s Degree in HR Management and a postgraduate qualification in employment law.
Dawn is committed to transforming the culture and ways of working within the construction sector for the better, helping it to become more inclusive and attractive to all regardless of background. Her strategy recognises the wider need to address national skills gaps in the sector by tapping into pools of talent who have not previously considered a career in the sector.
Dawn recognises that change and inclusivity cannot be achieved by just developing a raft of policies, but also requires a cultural shift in thinking and behaviour. This thinking and the innovative ideas behind it has led her to be recognised with a raft of external awards in the last two years and be asked to speak at 30 national events about her work as well as be interviewed for over 40 articles and publications.
Dawn is also an experienced non-executive director with experience of the public and third sectors. Outside of work she enjoys family time and in particular being a mum to her two daughters aged 6 and 4.
